OLD NEWS

September 11, 2001
Today was not a good day.

August 27, 2001
School has begun and so has our attempt at recording. Tonight we finished what we'd like to call a cd, though it's only for reference purposes. We'll have a good one out eventually, but if you wanna hear some decent recordings of our newer stuff talk to one of us at school and we'll give you a cd for a couple bucks. Or if you don't see us at school, email us at sicsam@lycos.com and request a cd.

Well, Vin Fiz went pretty well, one of the longest sets we've played. But now that we have no more scheduled gigs, we're gonna have to work on recording. So once we figure out how to do some good recordings, look for our cd out there. Also, if you want to hook us up with a gig, drop us a line at sicsam@lycos.com .

Thanks to all those who watched us last Saturday at Phillstock. I know some of you missed us since we played at 5 instead of our scheduled time at 10, but you can see us tonight at Nebo at 9:30. We've got some new songs that are pretty good, so check us out. We've got some new equipment. Kenton got the new drums a few weeks ago (you may have seen them at phillstock) and bergal got a peavy stack a few days ago. It's massive. Not a lot of news to report, just wanted to update the site. After this show today we're all out of shows to play, so if you can hook us up with a gig that'd be great. Email us at sicsam@lycos.com.

SpiroFatic, consisting of Brad Bergstrand, Chris Edison, and Ryan Lawber, played a show last Friday on the square last due to the fact Kenton had to work. I'm sure some of you saw it. Anyway, we tried to stay up 50 hours straight to protest some unknown cause. Kenton clocked in at 21 hours (due to work and waking up at 1 every day), Ed and Berg clocked in somewhere between 40 and 50, and I think Lawber is still goin. He might pull it off. We also jammed at like 8:30 in the morning in Milton to keep us awake, so if you live in Milton you might have heard that. I think that's all that's been goin on lately. Oh yeah, I added a link to Addicts Victorious in the links section, check that one out.

Hey kids, don't forget to watch our show tomorrow night at the courthouse. Spoon is opening for us, so you'll have to wait for them to finish before we go on. We'll have a special guest on stage, System Greinmood, to play a song for you. The fun starts at 9 o'clock with spoon, and then around 10:30 we'll play.
On a different note, we need to talk about Phillstock. This great event set up by Tony Peck will be on the 11th of August, starting at 5 in Pleasant Hill. You can check out all the details in the shows section. There will be 10 bands there, including: Sicsam, Spoon, A.O.S, Early August, No Exit, Fallenstar, Violet Skies, 8 Miles From Denver, Minutnyne, Kung Fu Bunnies, and Floating Oatis. These are bands from all around the place and it should be a really good show. Be sure to check it out.

Well, our show on the 8th went pretty well, thanks to those who showed up. We got an offer from Jenny Ward to play at some event in Pleasant Hill on August 11, we'll have more information on that in the future. That's it for now, not much goin on.

We've made it in 2 papers this week, I think we might be becoming Pike County celebrities. Check us out in the Pike County Express and the Pike Press if you haven't already.

School is finally out and there is some news to tell. We've got 3 gigs coming up this summer, so that should be pretty cool. One is next Friday on the courthouse lawn, so come and check us out. We've been making some new songs lately, they're pretty good. Oh yeah, today we had an interview with the Pike County Express and got a plug for the site in there. Maybe we'll finally get some more visitors from that. Anyway, be sure to look for us in the paper Tuesday and check out our show Friday.

It's been a while since the last update. We've had a couple shows since then. We played at Cole Foote's party, which was a pretty good show. We also played at afterprom Saturday night, which was not a very good show. We only did about 3 songs anyway. Our next show isn't going to be for a while. It will probably be at Pig Days in July. It's back to the basement for a while, just like the good ol days.

We played a show for about 15 people today, supposedly for Dave Day 2001. The ones who came to watch were our true and loyal fans, without you guys there would be no SicSam. The show went fairly well, and we hope to have another one soon. Don't forget to see us at Foote's party on Friday. We recorded a few more songs a few days ago, but they're only on tape. Maybe we should start a fundraiser so we can afford to rent a recording studio?

We got some new cymbals today, so the set sounds a lot better. Also, I got an email back from Pittsfield Main Street replying to the message I sent them about hooking us up with some gigs. Here it is:

Kenton,

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you about your band. I am in charge Pig Days this year and we pretty much have the stage entertainment already lined out. We are trying to work in conjunction with Pike County Youth Speak Out on a teen dance. But I am leaving the details up to them. As far as the summer concert series goes (Friday nights), Asa Dawson is in charge of lining up bands for the "Battle of the Bands" night. Thank you for your interest in our community. Good luck to you and the rest of the band.

Sally Ward

Wow, that email was no help at all. I guess we're gonna have to leave it up to the fans to get us gigs. I did talk to Kay Sealock when she came into Gio's one night, so we may be playing at the battle of the bands in July, check back in the future about that.

Kenton's new drumset arrived today and was assembled. It's an improvement from the trippy blue wave 70's set. Also, we recorded a few more songs with a lot of frustration. Berg wanted to kill someone, you could see it in his eyes. We also got a show set up for a week from today. Check us out in left field after the baseball game at PHS Wed. April 11. It should be pretty cool.

The first underground cd, 5 Bad Basement Recordings, was created today. With the 4 track, we recorded a few songs and put them on a cd. They are terrible in quality (can't hear vocals and there is bad static in the background) and will never be released to the public. Look out soon for some good quality recordings as we get more time.

Here's our Number One fan, the man that has been to all of our shows, Ryan Lawber.
